As a junior in high school, I was already living on my own in Section 8 housing while working at McDonald's. Even then, I knew there had to be a different path.
At just 17 years old, I joined the military shortly after 9/11 and proudly served for eight years with overseas deployments. During my service, I performed presidential security in Romania, remote site security in Egypt, and served as a .50 caliber gunner during convoy operations in Iraq.
The military gave me a foundation of discipline, integrity, work ethic, and perseverance that continues to guide me today.
When I left the service, I had saved approximately $40,000. I invested half of it to start what eventually became one of if not the largest pre-owned sport bike dealership in Texas—all built from the ground up.
Years later, after my son was born, I realized I was constantly working and rarely home. I found myself asking, "There has to be a better way to build wealth without sacrificing my time with family."
That search led me to real estate investing.
I immersed myself in books, education, and hands-on experience before selling the dealership inventory, retaining the commercial building as a rental, and purchasing my first single-family investment properties in 2018.
Over the next several years, I bought properties through auctions, off-market deals, wholesalers, the MLS, foreclosures, and many other sources. By mastering private lending, hard money financing, and capital recycling strategies, I was able to grow my portfolio to about 30 rental doors in just three years.
As the market evolved, however, I noticed the numbers changing. Property taxes increased dramatically, insurance premiums surged, repair costs climbed, vacancies became more common, interest rates rose sharply, and in many markets, appreciation slowed or even reversed.
Rather than ignore those changes, I adapted.
I adopted a different investing model focused on creating long-term income with significantly less day-to-day management. Instead of traditional rentals requiring constant repairs, maintenance, and tenant management, I now focus on strategies designed to reduce those headaches while still building wealth through real estate.
Today, I enjoy a level of financial freedom I once only dreamed about. My alarm clock rarely gets used, my debt is serviced by income-producing assets, and I spend more time with my family doing the things I love—including flying our airplane, participating in charitable work, and enjoying weekends on the water.
My goal now is simple: to help others shorten the learning curve that took me years to navigate and achieve their "freedom number" sooner rather than later.
